Wireless Printer Can’t Connect to Wi-Fi

If a wireless printer won’t join your Wi-Fi network, the cause is often an incorrect password, the wrong network name (SSID), or a weak signal during setup. This page shares general checks that apply to many models.

Before you start

These checks prevent the most common setup failures.

Same network

Your phone/computer should be on the same Wi-Fi you want the printer to join.

Password accuracy

Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive—retype carefully if setup fails.

Close to router

Keep the printer near the router during first-time wireless setup.

If you haven’t done wireless setup yet, review the main wireless printer setup guide.

Troubleshooting steps (general)

  1. Confirm the Wi-Fi name (SSID): Select the correct network from the printer’s wireless menu.
  2. Re-enter the password: Carefully type the Wi-Fi password again (case-sensitive).
  3. Restart the router and printer: A quick restart can clear temporary network issues.
  4. Check signal strength: Move the printer closer to the router for setup, then relocate later.
  5. Try adding the printer again: On your computer/phone, remove and re-add the printer and test printing.
Common result: When Wi-Fi fails, the printer may appear as “offline”. If you see that status, use: Printer showing offline.

After it connects

Once the printer shows connected/online, confirm it prints from at least one device.
